Broadcaster Jennifer Maguire has slammed her ex-fiance who disclosed intimate details of their relationship to a UK tabloid in 2008.

"I had a lucky escape," the 35-year-old said. "My parents didn't like him, but they never told me. They would always let me find out my own way.

"They would never sit down and go: 'Jennifer are you mental? What are you doing? Don't marry this guy'.

"They kind of let me do my thing and find out for myself. Which I did. Thank God!"

Jennifer is now happily married to Lau Zamparelli.

Earlier this year, the couple welcomed daughter Florence into the world.

"I've always wanted to have a kid. Always. I really wanted a baby. I waited for so long. We were trying for two years," Jennifer said.

"So when she came along, it was just excitement. It is unbelievable. I have been blessed with a baby who sleeps. She's the perfect child. She gets that from me!" the Breakfast Republic host laughed.

The broadcaster said she and Lau would like to have another child in the future.

"I would love to go again. It is just a question of when. Not right now."

Maguire made a name for herself harassing celebrities on the red carpet on Republic of Telly.

While she may appear ballsy and bitchy on TV, she says in reality she's warm and "great fun".

"[My husband] would say I am a very positive person," she said. "He would probably say that I am great fun. I wouldn't say 'cold' or 'bitchy' would be in the vocab he would use to describe me.

"Maybe some people [would see me like that]. That's the thing about being on radio or television, people have their opinion on you."

The slim brunette is currently gearing up for her new Republic of Telly spin off series, Bridget And Eamon, which co-stars Bernard O'Shea.

As a result, Maguire will not be returning to RTE 2's popular flagship show hosted by Kevin MaGahern.

"It was a very tough decision, but I won't be back for this season," she said.

"We have this opportunity with Bridget and Eamon so I have to put everything into that."
