Gruffalo's author set for another TV special

Gruffalo creator Julia Donaldson is to have another of her enchanting tales brought to life by the BBC next Christmas.

The popular writer, who is also the UK's Children's Laureate, is to have her book Room On The Broom animated as a family tale by BBC1.

Her hugely successful book The Gruffalo (below) was screened in 2009, featuring the voice of James Corden, and sequel The Gruffalo's Child was watched by millions of viewers on Christmas Day.

Room On The Broom, which was illustrated by frequent collaborator Axel Scheffler, was first published in 2001.

Donaldson said: "I've just seen the latest storyboard version of the Room On The Broom animation and am absolutely delighted.

" I don't usually say 'roll on, Christmas' in January, but this year is an exception."

The cast for the film -- about a friendly witch who invites too many passengers on to her broomstick -- is yet to be announced.

Donaldson studied French and drama at college, began her career as a songwriter, composing tunes and lyrics for children's TV programmes.

She's gone back to her roots with her new songbook, The Gruffalo's Child And Other Songs, which she'll be performing on stage next month.
