KERRYMAN Daithi O Se prepared for his debut stint hosting the Rose of Tralee tonight by swapping tips with former presenter Ryan Tubridy over the airwaves this morning.
Daithi, who has admitted to being extremely nervous ahead of the first of two live shows, which will be broadcast on RTE One this evening, was personally invited by Tubridy to be one of the first guests on his new 2fm radio programme.
Tubridy, who is a great supporter of the annual festival after presenting it himself for several years, is said to be extremely disappointed that he will have to miss out on the festivities this year.
Last year saw the Montrose presenter attend alongside his girlfriend, former Rose of Tralee Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain, who will also have to miss the celebrations as the festival clashes with a maths course she has signed up for.
Today is Tubridy's second day in the slot formerly presented by Gerry Ryan, after he decided to surprise fans by taking to the studio for his first show last Friday instead of this morning as expected.
And while the star had contemplated presenting his new radio show live from Tralee during the festival, as he has done in previous years, he and producers are said to have decided it was too early in the run for an outside broadcast.
"Ryan generally comes every year so he's disappointed that he can't make it," said a festival insider. "It just doesn't fit in around his new show as it's only his second day presenting, so he was keen to show his support in some small way by inviting Daithi on as a guest this morning instead.
"He has promised to give him plenty of advice and tips about how to keep his cool when he's up on stage.
"Unfortunately, other former hosts including Gay Byrne and Ray D'Arcy are also otherwise detained this week and won't be able to attend tonight's show or tomorrow night's finals."
