Blow for Voice singer Gari ... Dervla already has a guy
They showed so much chemistry on the last episode of Voice Of Ireland that they were encouraged to go on a date after the show.
But 28-year-old Gari Deegan has revealed he did not followed the advice -- because talented singer Dervla Magennis already has a boyfriend in the UK.
The 19-year-old, from Newry, Co Down, lost out to Gari for a place in the live shows after they performed The Noisettes hit Don't Upset The Rhythm together during the battle stage of the popular RTE show.
Gari said they had remained friends and Dervla has since become one of his staunchest supporters.
"Dervla and I have kept in touch like we said we would," the Spin South West DJ told the Herald.
"She studies in England, so we haven't seen each other, but she would have been in touch on Facebook or by text.
"She's brilliant, when I got through on Sunday night's show, she put up on Facebook that she is behind me.
"I'm delighted that I got to sing with her, she has a great talent."
Assistant coach Ruth Anne, who has written songs for Pixie Lott, was so impressed with Dervla and Gari's heated performance that she told them to go on a date, while panellist Sharon Corr said that they should certainly continue to sing together in the future.
"The comments came out of the blue," Gari said.
"No one was ever mentioned but Dervla actually has a boyfriend, it was made out that she was single. She never said she had a boyfriend on the show."
He added: "Me and Dervla just said that instead of standing there and singing a song, we should go over and put on as best a performance as we could.
"We made it as sexy as we could and I think that came across."
