He set hearts racing when he stripped off for his role in hit series Poldark, but Irish star Aidan Turner revealed he was worried his topless scenes would “detract from the show”.
The Dublin actor (31), who plays the lead role as Ross Poldark in the BBC drama, said he couldn’t believe fans’ reactions to his shirtless shots.
However, Aidan also admitted he enjoyed being seen as a heart-throb.
“I thought, ‘This is getting a bit hysterical, and I don’t want it to detract from the show.’ And at the same time it was fun,” he said
“People said, ‘Oh, do you feel objectified?’,” he said. “No. Not for this genre we’re in. It makes sense that Ross should look that way.”
The role has seen Turner become one of TV’s hottest actors, but The Clinic star revealed that he had never heard of the series of books that the show is based on before he was sent scripts from the series producers.
“I thought, ‘What’s Poldark, for a start?’ So I went to Google,” he told Wall Street Journal.
“Then I thought, ‘Oh, this is quite a big deal’.”
While he’s enjoying his new celebrity status, the Tallaght native said he avoids reading anything about himself to stop fame from going to his head.
“I think I could easily get addicted to googling myself if I did start doing it, so I just stay out of that,” he told the Radio Times.
