Temp Head

A host of stars took to the stage in Antrim over the weekend for the inaugural Bushmills Live festival.

Taking place in the distillery itself, performers including Snow Patrol, Elijah Wood of DJ Wooden Wisdom, Foy Vance and Iain Archer.

Also there was Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood, aka DJ Wooden Wisdom, who was spinning the decks as he got everyone in the party mood.

The first event of its kind, the two-day festival was attended by hundreds of music and whiskey lovers from around Europe.

Snow Patrol's Jonny Quinn said it was "pretty special". "We have played many gigs at home before, but this one, in a whiskey distillery was unique," he said.

wwwWe'll have former Blue hunk Duncan James on these shores this summer after he signed up for a new show. He'll take centre stage in the musical Chicago as he takes on the role of Billy Flynn, especially for the Irish performances.

He'll be treading the boards at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre from August 21-September 2.

Also starring in the musical will be Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian in the role of Roxie Hart as well as Tupele Dorgu from Coronation Street and Bernie Nolan as Mama Morton.

wwwThe Tall Ships Races is back on the bill for the summer and is coming back to Dublin on August 23-26. The weekend will see the capital city transformed along the north and south quays with various events on the bill to mark the occasion.

Bulmers will present a live music stage in George's Dock where there will be performances from stars such as Therapy and the Undertones with more acts to be announced. There will also be literary trails, heritage events and visual arts exhibitions with the full festival programme announced in July.

wwwThe Liss Ard festival is back on the calendar for the summer as the music, literary and food event takes place in Skibereen, Co Cork.

Running on August 4 and 5, among those on the bill are Toots & the Maytals, Mick Flannery, Lisa Hannigan, Paul Buchanan and Bob Mould, alongside Joan as Police Woman. There's a number of early bird tickets still available from €69.50, including camping.

wwwHere's a healthy-sounding event for fans of Yoga. The first of its kind, Breathe will be held on Saturday, June 30 in Wesley House off Leeson Street and entry is €10. There will be classes for all levels, as well as lectures on the practice, plenty of stalls to browse and organic food from the Happy Pear.
