RTE's Jacqui ran Cork in tribute to her brother Sean

AS thousands stampeded through the capital, newlywed RTE presenter Jacqui Hurley helped lead the throngs in the south for the Cork City marathon.

The presenter was one of 8,000 runners who took part in the marathon, to help raise funds for various charities .

Jacqui donned gym gear for her brother Sean (25), who died when his car hit a tree on the Kinsale to Bandon road last year.

Days before the accident, the broadcaster's sibling made a bucket list of things to do -- which included taking part in a triathlon, running a pub and becoming a world superbike champion.

Sports anchor Jacqui, who got hitched on Friday to Shane McMahon (together below), paid tribute to her late brother at the event.

"Since Sean died, we've been trying to do all of the things on his list," she said.

The presenter lined out with members of her family and her wedding guests to take on the 26-mile race.

Up to €3m was raised for a host of charities by runners who pounded the Cork streets.

Kenyan athlete Freddy Keron was the first over the line with a 2.22.11 time -- beating the existing record by more than three minutes.

Back in Dublin, Today FM host Mairead Farrell was among 40,395 women who completed the Flora Women's Mini Marathon.

The 32-year-old jogged the event to honour her late mother Maureen, who lost her battle with breast cancer.

After crossing the finish line at St Stephen's Green, mum-of-one Mairead said she was sad and delighted.

She joined a group of volunteers from the ARC Cancer Support centre, where Mairead's family went during Maureen's illness.

Boyzone star Keith Duffy's wife Lisa was showing the strain of the warm temperatures as she crossed the line in aid of Irish Autism Action -- but she found the energy to wait around for pal Morah Ryan to make it home.

Xpose's Karen Koster ran with the Sue Fraser fitness group, as beauty expert Laura Bermingham supported the Make A Wish foundation.

RTE's 2FM presenter Ruth Scott helped to warm up the crowds.
