Olympia set to stage play with a difference
DUBLIN'S Olmypia theatre is to become a den of debauchery, fighting, gambling and murder next year as it stages a cabaret-style theatre production based on the works of legendary German composer Kurt Weill and playwright Bertolt Brecht.
The Victorian-era music hall will host the first-ever collaboration between the Rough Magic Theatre Company and the Opera Theatre Company when they stage Brecht's political satire The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny next June.
The colourful production will see cast members, as well as players in the 60-strong orchestra, interspersed throughout the theatre, alongside the audience, in the balconies as well as on the stage.
The project would not have been possible without the support of Sky Ireland which selected it as the recipient of its €230,000 Sky Art's Ignition award.
