Robbie swings his way to top of charts

Robbie Williams swung his way into the history books as his latest record became the 1,000th number one in the UK album charts.

Swings Both Ways shot straight to the top spot, beating off Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 by 67,000 copies. The 39-year-old singer said although claiming the 1,000th number one was a "nice thing", reaching the summit was most important. "It's a nice bit of synchronicity, and nice that it hasn't gone unnoticed, but I don't know what it means, really," the star (left) said.

"The fact it's the 1,000th number one is a nice thing but it'll be forgotten by everyone on Tuesday."

Swings Both Ways – his second swing album after Swing When You're Winning in 2001 – comes 57 years after Frank Sinatra's Songs For Swingin' Lovers became the first-ever UK number one.
