HE might be the most popular boyband star in this country but Niall Horan has a little bit to go before catching Harry Styles.

The One Direction singer has reached 13 million followers on Twitter – leaving him second in line to Harry.

The Mullingar man was delighted to cross another milestone on the social networking site.

"Wow! 13 million followers!" he wrote. "You guys are amazing! Welcome to my world anyone who has just joined us here!! It can be quite random at times."

Niall is a compulsive tweeter and is well ahead of his other bandmates, excluding Harry, who leads the way with 14,824,799 followers.

The curly haired, cheeky chappy is known for uploading hilarious videos and random musings.

"Went to watch Cirque du Soleil tonight," he recently wrote. "I now feel not bendy." His acrobatic related tweet was retweeted 70,000 times.

In third spot is 19-year-old Liam Payne with 11,889,846 followers. Liam uses Twitter to let his fans know when he's upset or tell them how great they all are.

Last month, after receiving criticism over their Detroit gig, Liam let fans know cruel words can cut him to the core.

"Hey everyone. Saw some signs about me tonight that where a bit upsetting," he wrote.

Close behind Liam is Louis Tomlinson with 11,867,213. Meanwhile, Zayn Malik comes in last with a mere 9,745,922 followers.

While the boys seem to enjoy reaching out to their fans on the social networking site, they have had their fair share of trouble on Twitter. Most notably when they got in a messy online spat with rival boyband The Wanted.

The Wanted have now expressed an interest in resolving the feud so it looks like it's onwards and upwards for the boys.

It's been an extremely busy summer for 1D with their global tour, the upcoming release of their 3D movie This Is Us, new single Best Song Ever, the launch of their perfume Our Moment and a range of make-up not to mention their three-year anniversary.
