Mum's the word for hozier's album cover
HOZIER'S star is on the rise but the Bray native is happy to keep his music career a family affair as he commissioned his mum to create his album cover.
He is about to release his debut album in September and the singer didn't have to think twice about asking his mum to design the cover.
Artist Raine Hozier-Byrne has created all of the artwork for her talented son's releases so far and was chuffed to be asked.
"It's so seldom that you're cool to your own kids so I was delighted when he asked me to be involved," his proud mum told the Herald.
The piece shows a likeness to her tall, long-haired singer son Andrew but doesn't show his face.
His proud mum revealed that it is strange to see her son performing to sell-out crowds because he has always been extremely shy.
"We are all shy, so to see him on stage is a strange and wonderful thing for us," she admitted.
While Hozier is causing a storm in the music world, his brother Jon is a filmmaker whose first short feature was screened at the prestigious Cannes festival this year.
Hozier shot to fame when his single Take Me to Church went viral earlier this year. But despite his success his mum said her 24-year-old son has kept his feet on the ground.
"He's a very hard-working lad and it's been a big year for the family but I'm most proud of the fact that he is such a nice kid - the kind of guy you'd want to spend time with," she said.
"To hear him talk about his music is amazing, he treats it like a language. He talks about it like another person would talk about learning French," she said.
He played sold-out gigs this year in New York and LA and made a stunning US TV debut on the popular David Letterman chat show. Then Ellen DeGeneres came calling, where he went down a storm.
"The week that Andrew did Ellen was the week his brother Jon had his film shown in Cannes so it makes you think there must be something in the water down here," she said.
