DJ Dan's book sings praises of 'the forgotten'
2FM presenter Dan Hegarty stepped away from the decks last night to launch his first book and hinted it won't be his last.
The DJ was supported by a host of radio stars including veterans Larry Gogan and Dave Fanning at the launch of 'Buried Treasure - Overlooked, Forgotten and Uncrowned Classic Albums' in Whelans.
The presenter admitted the idea for the book came from his own 2FM show.
"Basically the inspiration just came from being a music fan," he told the Herald. "I always said I wanted to write a book but I was never really sure what it would be. I have a feature on my radio show called Buried Treasure and it's about albums from the past that are somewhat overlooked.
"It kind of dawned on me two years ago that it would actually be a pretty good idea for a book."
With contributions from Irish stars such as U2's Larry Mullen, singer Imelda May and actor Cillian Murphy, the Dubliner admitted he couldn't believe so many people assisted him in the project.
"It was really humbling that so many people got involved, it was really, really lovely actually," Mr Hegarty said.
"You realise that these people are pretty busy and there's no reason in the world why they would do this for you, but they do."
Diehard music fan Dave Fanning sang the books praises, and admitted there was albums mentioned in the book that even he hadn't heard of.
"Dan has a great taste in music, and this book is about a great taste in music," he said.
