Blink and you'll miss 'em -- punk heroes set for Oxegen
THEY have only performed a handful of concerts here in the last 15 years, but Blink 182 are returning to Ireland next year for Oxegen.
The Herald can yet again exclusively reveal all the latest details of 'Europe's Greatest Festival' and announce that the punk rockers are the latest confirmed headliners for Oxegen 2011.
Hot on the heels of announcing Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys as the first headliners for next year's festival, Blink-182 have been added to the bill.
With 25 million albums sold throughout the globe, they went into semi-retirement in 2004, but reunited at last year's Grammy awards.
Since returning to the music scene, Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker have been laying down tracks for their latest album, which will be released next year.
And the trio promise it will touch on their earlier material as well as featuring more "heavy" elements, referring to the deaths of their close friends Chris Baker, who was killed in the plane crash that Barker survived in 2008, and DJ AM.
"There's plenty of heavy stuff to write about," Mark said.
Oxegen will be returning to Punchestown Racecourse, Naas, Co Kildare from Thursday, July 7 to Sunday, July 10.
Early Bird tickets were available from 9am this morning until Friday, December 31. Buyers can secure a ticket with a €100 deposit now, and then pay the remaining two instalments by March 31 and June 30.
