Making a long distance relationship work ain't easy, but model January Winters says it's worth the effort, energy and sky-high phone bills.

The Ballybrack redhead (26) is back on Irish shores, having spent months strutting her stuff on Milanese catwalks, and is thrilled to be reunited with her long-term boyfriend Daire Legaspi.

The couple have been together for two-and-a-half years and January says Daire understands that travelling the world is part and parcel of her job.

"You're always going to miss [your boyfriend and friends] but I've come back to Ireland in between modelling jobs," she told the Diary.

"Daire's totally cool with me travelling. We trust each other so when I'm going out partying, he just tells me to have fun," January said.

"He's very understanding about it."

The Dublin model is fast making a name for herself on the international fashion scene and spends months modelling in exotic locations.

Having racked up impressive air miles, the flame-haired beauty is now planning on documenting her globetrotting ways. She's in the middle of settling up a blog with fellow Irish model Jenny Drea.

"Jenny's in New York at the moment and I'm going back and forth to Milan so it's going to be a bit about fashion and what we're up to," she explained.

For now, January, who recently celebrated coming back to Ireland by catching up with friends at Dun Laoghaire's Beatyard festival, is planning to spend some quality time in her home city before hotfooting back to Milan for another stylish adventure.

"I love Dublin - working there is always good fun. You make a lot of friends when you're working," she said.

"All the models get to know one another backstage at shows and shoots because there can be a lot of waiting around. All of the girls are lovely - Thalia [Heffernan] is my little gal pal."

Although she's already plotting what fashion capital to conquer next, the svelte 26-year-old won't be following her close friend Jenny to the Big Apple just yet.

"I'm not into New York. Europe seems a bit easier to me, I'm a bit daunted by New York to be honest," January said.

"Possibly I could try it at some point, but now I'm looking at maybe going to Germany or Dubai after Milan. So we'll see what happens."
