THE bridal designer who recreated Kate Middleton’s wedding gown just five hours after catching her first glimpse, believes Kim Kardashian’s dress will prove even more of a hit with Irish brides.
Marie McElheron, who owns a bridal shop in Wicklow, was pleasantly surprised with the reality star’s demure Givenchy Haute Couture choice.
“I assumed she would go for something low to show off her cleavage,” she told the Herald. “It is a fabulous gown, elements of it will definitely catch on, particularly the amazing lace detail. It will prove a very popular style - even more so than Kate Middleton’s.”
The new Mrs West (33) opted for a mermaid-silhouette gown with long, lace sleeves and a modest high neckline.
Kim’s dress was pure white in colour but the choice is unlikely to be followed by brides-to-be in Ireland.
“In general, white is too stark against Irish skin tones with ivory and cream still the hues of choice,” the dressmaker said.
According to McElheron, Kim Kardashian’s stunning gown completes a trio of wedding dresses - alongside those of the two Kates, Middleton and Moss - that are set to have major impact on Irish bridal trends in the next 12 months.
