'I'm living in the moment after my cancer diagnosis' - Brian
Brian Kennedy has said he is "living more in the moment" these days following his cancer diagnosis.
The singer (51) revealed he was diagnosed with rectal cancer in 2016 and is feeling positive about the future following a recent scan.
"I feel good. I'm not completely out of the woods yet, but compared to my late brother Bap, I'm very lucky," he said.
"I got one tumour very low down and it's quite treatable. I had an encouraging enough scan recently, so things are heading in the right direction.
"I'm checking alternative things while - of course - staying firmly in the oncology world."
The Belfast star said he has changed his lifestyle habits since the health fright.
"The cancer scare absolutely stopped me in my tracks," he said. "I changed the way I was training. I'm toning now, as opposed to lifting heavy weights and eating like crazy."
Brian is busy with work, and following a holiday in Crete with some friends he will be working on a new musical project and is also writing his third novel.
"I'm living more in the moment because life is just so precious," he told the RTE Guide.
"I have, sadly, a bunch of people in my phone right now who are dead.
"That informs my decision making. That's why I've decided to go to Crete and I'm doing tours.
"I'm recording a new project and going back to China in December with Secret Garden. Bring it on."
Brian, who has enjoyed great success in the music industry, has never had a singing lesson, and he credits his work for making him an independent person.
"Singing is what makes me happiest. Over the last 40 years I've been honing my craft," he said.
"I think that's why I'm so independent as well. I really am self-contained.
"I got good at it and I continue to be good at it. It suits me."
Brian prefers to tackle difficult subjects in his work.
"There are times when I find it's much easier to sing something if it has a difficult subject matter," he said.
