Panti's joy as documentary project hits €50,000 goal
PANTIBLISS is to get her very own documentary as the team behind a long-running film project exceeded their €50,000 funding goal.
The documentary has already been in the works for four years. However, it will not be finished until after the marriage equality referendum in 2016.
Pantibliss: The Queen of Ireland will follow both the iconic drag queen and her alter ego, Rory O'Neill. The company behind the ambitious film, Blinder Films, put a call out last month for donations.
Director Conor Horgan told the Herald that the production team are thrilled but not surprised that they reached their target.
"I'm not surprised but I am incredibly grateful to all those who donated," he said. "It was a big ask," he admitted but it has confirmed what he already knew, that people want to see Panti on-screen. "This is a clear indication that people want to see it," he said.
Speaking from her dressing room, Pantibliss told the Herald that she was happy for the team to have funded their project. "But also happy that there is an end in sight," she joked.
A total of 891 people had donated €50,781 while two generous donors forked out €3,000 each.
