Actress Sarah Greene in running for role in Ryan Reynolds superhero movie
IRISH actress Sarah Greene has been added to a shortlist of six women competing to star opposite Ryan Reynolds in the X-Men spin-off Deadpool.
The Vikings actress, who has been making a name for herself in Hollywood circles, is up against stiff competition with actors such as Homeland's Morena Baccarin vying for the role.
Reynolds will star as Deadpool - a deadly mercenary assassin with healing powers - a character he played originally in the X-Men franchise.
It has not been confirmed what character the female lead will be but, Fox studios has lined up the six women to audition for it.
The Cork-born actress is no stranger to the big screen, though she first made her name on the stage in London's West End.
She picked up a nomination for a Tony Award for her role in The Cripple of Inishmaan and garnered the attention of movie boss Harvey Weinstein.
The co-founder of Mirimax films was impressed with the talented brunette and helped her land a role in an upcoming John Wells film.
The untitled movie also stars man-of-the moment Jamie Dornan and Hangover star Bradley Cooper.
In that movie she will play a restaurant manager in a film about a chef who unites a team to launch the world's best restaurant.
Before impressing the powers-that-be in Tinseltown, the Penny Dreadful actress appeared in Irish films The Guard and Noble.
It seems her star has continued to rise Stateside though she has spoken publicly about not seeking fame.
Instead of being well-known, the Irish starlet has said that she would rather be well paid.
Also in the running for the mystery role in the Marvel comic book adaptation is Taylor Schilling from the Netflix hit Orange is the New Black along with Rebecca Rittenhouse and Crystal Reid.
Deadpool is set to go into production in March and studio bosses reportedly want it in cinemas in 2016.
Comic book films are big business in Hollywood with the likes of Avengers Assemble raking in hundreds of millions of euro at the box office worldwide.
Gaiety-trained actress Sarah looks set to become one of Hollywood's leading ladies whether she lands the role or not.
