SPELLS are unlikely to feature on the curriculum any time soon, but the staff of Hogwarts could still find a friendly welcome in any school.

Three Harry Potter teachers - Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape - have been named among the top 10 favourite fictional teachers.

Prof Dumbledore (inset), Harry's mentor through much of the Potter books, took first place, while the tough-but-fair Prof McGonagall was third. Second was Miss Honey from the Roald Dahl classic Matilda.

Prof Snape, seen as a bad guy until his redemption in the final book, was seventh.

Also included in the top 10 were unorthodox English teacher Mr Keating from Dead Poets Society, quick-tempered Mr Gilbert from The Inbetweeners and chemistry teacher Walter White from Breaking Bad.

Top five fictional teachers:

1. Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter series)

2. Miss Honey (Matilda)

3. Minerva McGonagall (Harry Potter series)

4. Mr Keating (Dead Poets Society)

5. Charles Xavier (X Men series)
