Dan and Becs creator says new show Sarah and Steve will definitely be funnier...and Tallaght through and through
Dan and Becs creator Dave Coffey (26) has revealed that his new show, Sarah and Steve will be even better than the original.
"It's not going to be as satirical as Dan and Becs was, but I think it will definitely be funnier and more entertaining," insisted the writer.
"It's a sweet romantic comedy about a relationship between two working class people based in Tallaght.
"One similarity between the two shows is that Emmet Kirwan, who is starring in the show itself as Steve, is a co-writer for the show -- just like I played the role of Dan in Dan and Becs and also wrote the scripts," he said.
Emmet Kirwan (28) studied acting at Trinity College and has appeared in a number of TV shows, including RTE's Legends and The Big Bow Wow, as well as films Inside I'm Dancing and Shattered, and has also spent many years acting in theatre starring in productions such as Rent and has written scripts for internet comedy sketch Frazier Fraze. Dave and Emmet met when they were both working on the Rock The Vote campaign.
"When I met Emmet, I was already aware of his acting background and I approached him about writing a show with me.
"A lot of the show will be based on Emmet's own experiences growing up and living in Tallaght, so it's going to be very true to life," Dave explained.
"We're actually in the process of writing the scripts right now and we're having great fun with it," he added. Sarah and Steve will be broadcast next year and will have a similar format to Dan and Becs, which was shown in 10-minute segments with each character appearing on screen separately.
The popular show was nominated for an IFTA in the category of Best Entertainment earlier this year. The new show will detail the ups and downs of the relationship between a twenty-something working class couple, showing the two lead characters going through a rocky patch in their relationship.
Actress Charlene Gleeson (25) who plays Sarah is from Tallaght herself.
She described her character as "Tallaght through and through, she loves Tallaght, all her friends love Tallaght, she works in Tallaght and she goes out in Tallaght; whereas Steve kind of wants to go travelling and to see the world, so we'll see what happens".
Charlene starred with Angeline Ball in last year's RTE drama Trouble in Paradise.
