SHE has just wrapped an extended run on her West End show and actress Charlene McKenna is keen to get some down time before she starts filming on the new season of crime drama Ripper Street.
The London-based actress, who hails from Co Monaghan, is currently in the French countryside where she is enjoying some R&R before she reprises her role as reformed prostitute Rose on the gritty show.
The official cast for the third season of the drama, which is set in Ireland, will be announced this week.
But the 30-year-old actress has agreed terms and will return to the cast,
Charlene was not present as filming kicked off in Manchester this week with show star Matthew Macfadyen donning his early 1900s clobber for scenes in the new series on Wednesday. However, Raw star Charlene is due to return to the set when filming moves to Dublin in the coming weeks.
The show is being partly filmed in the UK for the first time, but it will move to the capital on May 26 and cast and crew will be based here until mid August.
“Charlene is currently on a break following the end of her theatre role and will then return for filming on Ripper Street,” a spokesperson for the actress said..
“She will remain with the show for the duration of filming.”
The drama, which is filmed in Dublin’s Clancy Barracks, was initially axed by the BBC before being resurrected in a deal with internet giant Amazon.
Ripper Street, season three will air first online on Amazon’s on-demand Prime Instant service before being shown on TV.
Charlene has just wrapped up an extended run on the West End with hit theatre production Ghosts.
The actress, who turned 30 last month, is best known in Ireland for roles on hit RTE series including Pure Mule and Raw.
In Ripper Street, the petite brunette takes on the role of prostitute Rose, who joins a dance hall in an attempt to leave the murky world of prostitution behind her.
