You're hired! Apprentice's Jane lands new TV role
VIEWERS know her as the frosty girl at reception who sends Apprentice hopefuls into the boardroom to await their fate on the hit TV3 series.
And now Bill Cullen's secretary Jane Downes has bagged herself a top spot as a presenter.
Jane, who spent four years at the reception desk on the 'you're fired' show, has beaten hundreds of applicants and landed her very own slot in TV3's schedule.
The budding broadcaster is set to front the Ballymount station's brand new programme called As Seen On TV.
Joined by Marty Miller and Conor Clear, who will also enjoy their debut in front of the cameras, Jane will aim to solve issues that audiences find confusing, amusing or bemusing from the week in television.
Business tycoon Bill's right-hand man Brian Purcell told the Herald Jane will be a big loss to the Apprentice.
"She's very capable, an exceptionally hard worker and very diligent. I'm delighted for her that she'll be doing her own thing now though," he said.
"It'll be really weird without her, she's a very bubbly person and all blokes love her. She definitely was a big distraction for them on their way in for a grilling from us in the boardroom. But they did know not to go near her -- she has that stare which terrified them," added Brian, who set up his own company BP Communications last October.
"She'll be a loss to Bill, Jackie and myself -- we'll miss her a lot. Now we'll have to look carefully to find a replacement for her, we may even have to do a competition," he laughed.
As Seen On TV, which has been described as a mix of Points Of View meets Harry Hill, will see Jane and her colleagues sift through emails and social networking messages from viewers to get to the bottom of what on the box has people talking.
Soap fans can finally figure out if Coronation Street star Rita is a natural redhead, or whether Home And Away is set in a real town.
The show does not exclude other channels and will even discuss material from TG4 or rival station RTE. As Seen On TV is due to kick off tomorrow at 6.30pm and will also air on Wednesdays at 7.30pm.
