Why mum Miriam won't run for Aras
RTE star Miriam O'Callaghan has revealed the real reason behind her decision not to run for presidency -- the pressure it would put on her children.
The Prime Time presenter admitted she would be afraid one of her eight children would have a "Euan Blair scenario", where he was arrested after being found drunk in public while celebrating his exam results in 2000.
In an interview with her Alma Mater, UCD, O'Callaghan said: "I said I wouldn't stand because my youngest is five and I don't want a Euan Blair scenario where one of my kids could be falling out of Wesley with too much Lucozade on them. You do have to think of that."
And O'Callaghan -- who has frequently being linked to the job of presidency in recent months -- refused to rule out a future run for Aras.
"It's such an extraordinarily important role. I am flattered and honoured, I know this sounds like PR, that anyone would consider me for it," she said.
"I did say that if people still like me in seven years, you never know," she added.
