Why Donal's hoping to be a kitchen hero in sweden
TV chef Donal Skehan hopes to take his cooking show to Sweden -- his girlfriend's native country.
Not content with working and living with his girlfriend of five years, Sofie Larsson, Donal has now plans to conquer the hearts of foodies in her home nation.
The talented Howth native told the Herald that he would be sure to use his language skills if his hit programme Kitchen Hero makes it to Scandinavia.
"We're hoping to get the book published over there and potentially the TV series sold which would be fantastic," he said.
"I'm over there quite a bit, so it would mean that I would have the chance to do a bit of work when I go over there, that would be the plan and the fact that I can speak a bit of Swedish is obviously an add-on.
"I wouldn't say I speak it fluently but I can get a full conversation out with not too many problems."
Donal (25) met Sofie (24) when she came over to Dublin five years ago to visit a friend.
He kept in touch with her when she flew back home, and after spending three months together in Sweden, they moved in together in Ireland.
The loved-up pair now work together on his RTE series and also share a house in Howth.
While most couples would fear spending so much time together, they have made the most of it.
"There is no kind of pressure, if anything it's positive it's an addition to what we already have," Donal explained. "We've had a mixture of long distance and full time relationship and have got through both situations," he explained.
Donal's already hard at work on his next book and a possible follow-up to the Kitchen Hero TV series. He said: "If it goes ahead, we'll hopefully be recording in January."
