We're engaged but won't rush to wed, vows Sorcha
FAIR CITY star Sorcha Furlong has started 2012 in style - a new stage show and she's also got engaged.
The Lucan native, who plays businesswoman Orla, has revealed that her partner of four years Gordon Weldon got down on one knee to propose.
"It was a lovely surprise. We'd discussed it in the past, but I really didn't expect it when it came," the Meath-based bride-to-be told the Herald.
"It was the best Christmas present ever and my sister got engaged over the holidays too."
Although she's thrilled at the prospect of becoming Mrs Weldon, Sorcha added that the loved-up pair, who have a 22-month-old daughter, Stella, are yet to set the date for their nuptials.
"We'll probably get married next year, but I've no plans yet. When things have calmed down, we'll sit down and get organised, there's no rush at the moment.
"My sister is very organised and she's already heading off to wedding fairs for her big day, so she's been picking up loads of tips for me, which I'm delighted about," said the actress.
Despite being in no hurry to get hitched, it's full steam ahead in the work department for the mum-of-one.
Best known for her role in RTE's long-running soap, the Dubliner is taking two months off from Carrigstown to perform alongside Lorraine Keane and Fair City pal Hilda Fay in upcoming musical production, Girls Night.
"We're in rehearsals at the moment and we're getting on really well -- we're all in it together so everyone's helping each other out.
"Hilda's one of my best friends, we know each other inside out from working on Fair City the past 12 years -- but it's nice to mix it up."
Sorcha is due back on the RTE set in March and insisted the soap's producers "graciously" gave her time to pursue the project.
However, she admitted to being excited for her return to the show, as her character is never short of interesting storylines. "Orla's never been boring, there's always something mad it store for her," she added.
