THE restaurant maitre d' John Healy says he was unaware of organ transplants -- before he needed a new heart to save his life.
Speaking about the life-saving surgery he underwent earlier this year the 46-year-old (inset) said: "Without a heart transplant, I would not be here. It saved my life. I was quite unaware of organ donation or transplantation before I needed one."
He added: "Families should have these conversations about the views of their loved ones around organ donation just in case something happens in the future."
The TV star, who had heart attacks in 2007 and 2009 before he had a transplant this year, will speak at a free public meeting in the Alexander Hotel Dublin tomorrow on organ donation, organised by the Forum on End of Life in Ireland.
