Top bachelor claims victory for 'underdog'
IRELAND'S most eligible bachelor says that even his own mother was gobsmacked when he won the title.
Radio host JP Gilbourne is celebrating after being voted the 2013 Stellar Bachelor of the Year. The 98FM DJ was crowned at the magazine's annual awards bash in Krystle nightclub.
Ray Foley's sidekick and co-presenter battled it out with 21 other bachelors, including renowned ladies' man Calum Best, to take home the crown.
Also competing for the title were Voice of Ireland singer Andrew Mann and actor Emmett Hughes.
But it seems the disk jockey's "cheeky good looks" and on-air manner were enough to see him beat off the competition. JP said the victory was one for "ugly Ireland".
"It's one for the underdog – not even my mam thought I had a chance," said the DJ, who was joined on the night by 98FM radio co-host Foley. "And when I say underdog, I really mean minger."
The 33-year-old, who has been single for the past couple of years, will be hoping the accolade will help to spice up his dating life.
Following his win, JP revealed that the three things he looks for in a girl are a sense of humour, confidence and a nice bum.
His biggest turn-off is a woman who wears "three-inch-thick" make-up.
Voted the winner by Stellar Magazine readers, the Dundalk-born presenter picked up an array of prizes. He said Best's claims that he won because of votes from his family was "sour grapes".
