Tess Daly and Vernon Kay appear in public together for first time since 'sex texts' scandal

Vernon Kay and Tess Daly last night appeared in public together for the first time since news of his "sex texts" scandal broke.

The All Star Family Fortunes presenter shared the podium with his wife, herself the host of Strictly Come Dancing, at a Prince's Trust award ceremony to recognise the achievements of young people who have turned their lives around.

The celebrity couple, who are both Trust ambassadors, looked relaxed as they hosted the event.

No reference was made on stage to the scandal that erupted last month, but the couple fuelled rumours that their relationship is still under strain as they refused to walk down the red carpet together - instead slipping through a side entrance.

Mr Kay, who has two young daughters with Miss Daly, has admitted sending explicit text messages to around five women.

He told the listeners of his Radio 1 show last month he had been "foolish and stupid".

Without referring directly to the texts, Kay said at the time he had "disappointed and let down a lot of people", adding: "To my family and everybody else, I am very sorry."

Miss Daly described those put forward for the honours last night as "real heroes" and stood with her husband throughout the Prince's Trust Celebrate Success awards staged at the Odeon cinema in London's Leicester Square.

At the start of the ceremony, attended by a host of stars including Sir Michael Caine, Gemma Arterton and comedian Michael McIntyre, Kay told the audience: "We are so very excited to be here with you all today, it's such a treat to have an afternoon out."

The awards celebrated young people who have overcome problems such as homelessness and drug addiction to get back into work and education.

The Prince of Wales met celebrity ambassadors for his charity The Prince's Trust - Sir Michael Caine, Gemma Arterton, Michael McIntyre and Chris Evans - at the event.
