Fireworks singer Katy Perry turned 27 this week, although considering the success she has packed into her young life, we can be forgiven for thinking she has been around for a while longer.
Due to play in Dublin in a couple of weeks time, music star Katy first stepped on the pop music scene back in 2008 with I Kissed a Girl, and quickly became the first female artist to have five No 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the same year.
So what 10 things do you really need to know about Katy, yet just might not?
1 Katy's first kiss with husband and comedian Russell Brand made her hop like a bunny. She told Glamour magazine: "When he was filming Get Him to the Greek, I did a cameo with him. My scene called for me to make out with him. And on the way down the stairs after the scene, I was hopping like a bunny. I get a bit childlike."
2 Katy and Russell became engaged after only three months of dating. Brand proposed around New Year 2009 in India, while sitting atop an elephant watching fireworks.
3 The singer was born Katheryn Hudson but later changed her name to avoid confusion with Hollywood actress Kate Hudson.
4'Jesus' is tattooed on Katy's left wrist. She told E! News: "It's always going to be a part of me, when I'm playing; it's staring right back at me, saying, remember where you came from."
5 Katy's parents are both evangelical Christian pastors from Santa Barbara, California. The singer told MTV: "I was raised in a very pseudo-strict religious household where the only thing on the menu was Oh Happy Day, His Eye Is on the Sparrow and Amazing Grace."
6 The band Queen had a large influence on Katy's musical career. She told Elle magazine: "I had my big, intense, meaningful musical moment with Queen, not with Don't Stop Me Now, but with the song Killer Queen. I think that everybody has this one moment in their lives that they can remember."
7Because Perry's parents had contacts in the gospel recording industry in Nashville, she began her music career singing Christian pop.
8However, after seven years of failing to hit the big time, she ditched the religious market and created the sexy alter-ego Katy Perry. Her 2008 blockbuster One of the Boys sold an impressive 46,767 units in its first week.
9 Katy once described herself as "a fatter version of Amy Winehouse and the skinnier version of Lily Allen". Later, Allen took offence and threatened to release Perry's personal phone number.
10Unless you're a big fan, you're unlikely to know that Katy's partner in crime, Kitty Purry, has her very own blog. The feline was even nominated for Teen Choice Best Celebrity Pet of 2009.
