Stars snap up Dublin designer's jewellery

A DUBLIN jewellery designer's star is on the rise after landing a number of celebrity fans.

Dalkey native Merle O'Grady (27) jumped ship to London six years ago to further her fashion career, and has since become one of the premier up-and-coming accessories designers out there.

Her designs were most recently worn by Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh when she presented for international network E! Entertainment's coverage of the BAFTA awards.

The songstress looked stunning in her Crystal Honeycomb collar as part of her Spring/Summer 2011 collection.

But Merle has long been a firm favourite with Kimberley's bandmate Cheryl Cole.

The X Factor judge has been spotted wearing some of her designs at various different parties and music videos in the past number of months, since the entrepreneurial designer sent in some of her pieces to her stylist.

But some of the most influential people in fashion have long had their eye of Merle, and she recently featured in Vogue magazine.

Her trademark 'Bombshell' ring was listed as one of the "100 items you must have" for the Christmas period, as well as gracing the pages of Elle last month.

She is currently showcasing at London Fashion Week alongside some of the best-known designers in the world, and her career has gone from strength to strength in the last number of years.

Merle also counts superstar Beyonce and Rihanna as fans, who both scooped up some of her items from her Dublin stockist Rebecca Davis on the Irish leg of their European tours last year.

Both R&B divas were spotted soaking up some of the capital's best-known boutiques during their stint here and both were spotted alongside their stylists in the exclusive store in the Westbury Mall.

"Beyonce wore some of the pieces after she popped into Rebecca Davis last time she was in Dublin, and Rihanna's stylist bought a huge pair of my Aztec earrings from there," Merle previously told the Herald.
