Steven Spielberg is unrepentant for scaring swimmers out of the sea with Jaws.
Speaking backstage at the Critics Choice Awards, the filmmaker wouldn't accept any responsibility for frightening a generation with his classic movies.
"I have a feeling that before Jaws came along there was some concern about sharks in the water from swimmers and surfers," the 64-year-old laughed.
He went on: "What did we do? We kind of jumped on a subject that was already a nerve to be hit since it had been hit so many times before for hundreds of years. I don't really take much responsibility for that, except to say I do love sharks!"
The legendary movie maker picked up Best Picture Made For Television as executive producer on The Pacific.
Steven revealed that his next two projects are polar opposites.
"The next films? I'm mounting two productions - Robopocalypse and Lincoln," he revealed.
