NEWLY single Tom Cruise has thrown himself back into his work to distract himself from his recent split from Katie Holmes.
After details of his divorce settlement emerged yesterday, the 50-year-old was no doubt grateful to get on with things and return to the set of his latest movie in Los Angeles.
While his now ex-wife Katie (33) was in New York after winning primary physical custody of the couple's daughter Suri, Hollywood star Tom got stuck into filming sci-fi flick Oblivion in June Lake, California.
The dad-of-three was spotted coming out of an expensive Silver Screen bus, alleged to be given to him by Scientology bosses, dressed in full military costume complete with a gun slung on his arm.
According to reports, Tom has received a number of gifts from the Church of Scientology over the years, including a selection of motorbikes and an aircraft hanger.
Meanwhile, on the east coast of the United States, a cheerful looking Katie and daughter Suri went out for their daily stroll in New York.
Details have continued to emerge about how Katie and her supporters -- including her parents Martin and Kathleen -- had been planning her split from Cruise in secrecy for several months before she "blindsided" her him less than two weeks ago.
It's now understood that a close friend of the actress gave her a disposable mobile phone which she used to liaise with her legal team in order to prepare her divorce petition away from her husband and the prying eyes of his Scientologist friends and advisors.
Tom and Katie's six-year-old child Suri was the reason for the TomKat split, but now it seems she was peacemaker behind their speedy divorce settlement.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were said to be almost at war in what was appearing to be an increasingly acrimonious split, but the welfare of their daughter Suri helped them come to an agreement.
It has been claimed that initially Katie hoped to thwart any of her estranged husband's decision-making power over their girl's life to protect her from Scientology, but after a series of lengthy conversations over how a legal battle would affect her, the pair let their lawyers strike a deal.
"We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents," Tom and Katie said in a joint statement.
Katie has been given primary custody -- but Tom has been given weekly access to their young daughter. It's understood Suri will continue to live with her mother in New York.
All talk of religion from either parent has been banned -- but it is understood this condition will relent once Suri gets older and can make up her own mind.
This is Tom's third divorce, after the breakdown of his marriages to Mimi Rogers and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two children.
Meanwhile, rumours have surfaced that A-lister Katie has rejoined the Catholic church, by registering as a parishioner at the Church of St Francis Xavier in New York.
