Ryan set to top bestseller lists with JFK book
Ryan Tubridy looks set to conquer Ireland's bestselling charts if the buzz surrounding his JFK book is anything to go by.
Pre-orders of the RTE broadcaster's upcoming book, JFK In Ireland: Four Days That Changed A President, suggest that the Late Late Show host could be at the top of the charts until Christmas.
A well-informed source told the Herald that thousands of copies had been reserved in advance of the book's launch date tomorrow, and that this was an early indication of blockbuster sales.
"Political biographies from well-known and well-loved figures always do very well, and Ryan's book has also attracted a lot of attention -- he has an enviable platform," an employee for Dubray Books said.
"Judging from the pre-orders that we've had, I expect that it will reach No 1 in its first or second week, and then remain there for a while, maybe even until Christmas."
He added that the volume could even capture the interest of history lovers abroad.
"Irish Americans are extremely proud of JFK and always love to hear about the way they relate back to their roots, so I imagine that quite a few copies will be sold over there too," he added.
Ireland's biggest bookshop chain, Eason and Son, would not reveal, for its part, the number of copies booked by its customers.
However, a spokesperson for the Irish company confirmed that it was one of the most highly anticipated literary events of the year.
Head of Purchasing at Easons Maria Dickenson revealed that the bookstore had stocked up on the non-fiction work because it expected it to be incredibly successful.
