Revealed, star singer Una's secret past as a Fair City extra

SHE'S now in top girlband The Saturdays -- but Irish singer Una Healy used to spend her days walking around the cobbles of Carrigstown.

The Herald can exclusively reveal that the Tipperary star was an extra on Fair City just weeks before she was scouted by top music executives for a slot in the chart-topping band.

It appears that singing is not the only talent that Una, who is expecting her first child with her rugby star fiance Ben Foden in March, has. The 30-year-old spent months working as an extra on the soap, appearing in series 17 of the show.

An RTE insider revealed that, back in 2007, Una was often seen walking around Carrigstown or chatting in the background of the town's pub McCoy's and the cafe.

The source told the Herald: "No one really knows about it but Una actually wanted to be an actress. She had always been writing and recording music but when nothing was happening for her she started turning her focus to acting.

"She loved working on Fair City and became really good friends with the other extras but Una always said that her heart belonged to music. Then out of nowhere she was gone off to London. She had auditioned for The Saturdays and got it and the rest is history,"

Una is expecting her baby girl next month and plans to return to her hometown of Cahir to introduce her new arrival to her family while planning her big Irish wedding.
