Real-life drama for Downton star Allen as hotel is cleared
IRISH Downton Abbey star Allen Leech was forced to evacuated his London hotel after a fire alarm.
The 29-year-old Dubliner (right), who plays chauffeur Tom Branson, managed to get very little sleep on Tuesday night when members of the show's cast were rushed out of their hotel.
Killiney native Allen and his co-star Hugh Bonville, who plays Lord Grantham on the ITV drama, were alerted to an emergency when the alarm went off in the early hours.
"Standing in the freezing cold outside the hotel with Hugh Bonville ... that's my performance out the window today," the Dubliner wrote on his social networking site at 6am on Wednesday, before adding that he was "running around to keep warm" in his pyjamas.
The incident occurred after Allen and Hugh had spent the night with the talented cast at the Elle Style Awards at the Savoy Hotel.
The group of actors, including Laura Carmichael and Sophie Mcshera, picked up the gong for Best TV Show.
Allen, who previously teamed up with actress Amy Huberman in independent movie Rewind, tweeted from the set yesterday afternoon, "Ah the wonders of make-up and coffee -- Hugh and I look like we had a full night's sleep."
The bachelor took a break from the production, to turn out to the IFTA awards at the Convention Centre, Dublin, on Saturday and returned to the UK to continue filming for Downton Abbey's third season, which resumed this week at Highclere Castle.
The latest instalment is set to hit screens later this year and will see Oscar-winning actress Shirley MacLaine join the cast.
