Pitt backlash after he says life with Jen wasn't interesting
SHOCK: Brad rows back on insult to ex as he praises mum Angelina
BRAD PITT is rowing back from his comments about his "uninteresting" life with ex-wife Jennifer Aniston.
The throw-away remark could be the beginning of the fall from grace for the Hollywood superstar.
Pitt (47) said that he tapped into his feelings during his marriage with the Friends star to rejuvenate his career.
The actor compared his new life with Jolie, with whom he is raising six children, favourably to the five years he spent married to Aniston.
"It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn't living an interesting life myself," Pitt told magazine Parade.
"I think that my marriage (to Aniston) had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn't." Pitt and Aniston were married in 2000, and he has largely avoided talking about her since their 2005 divorce.
But his comments could turn his female fan base off as Jennifer is a firm chick flick favourite. Now the star is trying to clarify the remarks. "It grieves me that this was interpreted this way," Pitt said.
"Jen is an incredibly giving, loving, and hilarious woman who remains my friend. It is an important relationship I value greatly.
"The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself -- and that, I am responsible for."
Pitt also said he spent the 1990s "trying to hide out" from celebrity. "I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out," he said.
Pitt and Oscar winner Jolie have held off marriage, even though they have been together for more than five years.
The actor has said they will not marry until gay marriage is widely legalised and he said that he is sticking to that.
"We'll get married when everyone can," Pitt said.
The Parade interview with Pitt, who stars in the upcoming baseball drama Moneyball, is being published in this Sunday's edition of the magazine.
The Seven actor made comments that were close to the bone, considering Aniston (41) has made no secret of her desire to be a mother.
"One of the greatest, smartest things I ever did was give my kids Angie as their mum," he gushed.
"She is such a great mum. Oh, man, I'm so happy to have her."
Aniston put on a happy face as she stepped out with new boyfriend Justin Theroux It has been a tough week for the actress, though, who this week rushed to Los Angeles to be by her mother Nancy's hospital bedside after she suffered a stroke.
The distraught star was in tears during a recent visit to the hospital to see the 75-year-old, who was estranged for many years from her daughter..
