- It will be handbags at dawn in the Shelbourne Hotel this Friday as our best-known beauties and blokes battle it out for the style crown.

Expect to see plenty of show-stopping dresses and liberal applications of fake tan as hundreds of well turned- out glamour pusses fight it out for a gong at the Peter Mark VIP Style Awards.

This year sees three accolades up for grabs at the event, and among those in the most stylish lady category are Amy Huberman, Anne Doyle, Anna Daly and our own Herald columnist Colette Fitzpatrick.

For the man of style, nominees include Ryan Tubridy, Daithi O Se, Ronan Keating and restaurateur Nick Munier of Hell's Kitchen fame.

In the most stylish couple category, there are luminaries such as Miriam Ahern with Terry McCoy, Aidan Power with girlfriend Vivenne Bushell and first-time nominees Donal MacIntyre and Ameera de la Rosa.

- The party crew will be beating a path to Harry Crosbie's new venue, Grand Canal Theatre, for one of the venue's first performances.

The legendary Paul Brady has invited a handful of guests to join him at the southside venue, which officially opens this month, to mark his lengthy time in the business and celebrate the launch of his brand new album Hooba Dooba. As well as announcing details of next month's shows in the theatre, he will also treat attendees to an intimate performance of some of his new material.

- Gregarious publisher Paul Trainer of The Dubliner mag has finalised the line-up for a boozy discussion on the eve of St Patrick's Day. The Scotsman and his learned pals will be holding forth on the topic of 'What Has Ireland Done For the World' at Tripod on Harcourt Street.

And among those who have signed up are Eamon Keane, Naoise Nunn and Ulick O'Connor. Given that the debate will be followed by a Heineken reception, we're expecting plenty of sore heads the following day.

- Those in the know will be heading out to Dundrum Town Centre this Thursday for a night of fashion and beauty at BT2.

The upmarket store will showcase all the hottest looks for the next few months as our top models take to the catwalk.

Guests will be treated to Spring cocktails and sushi, while Mo Kelly will spin out the tunes on the decks.

Meanwhile, the previous evening sees amiable hotelier John Fitzpatrick inviting all his VBFs to join him at Residence on St Stephen's Green.

The head of the New York chain will be coming over all patriotic with a St Patrick's-themed evening for a selected number of guests.
