My TV talent comes from my granny, says chef Donal

THERE'S just no stopping culinary whizzkid Donal Skehan.

The young chef and blogger has already bagged primetime TV shows, penned numerous best-selling cookbooks, and even supported The Pussycat Dolls during his brief stint as a pop singer.

Now the Howth native has signed with one of the US's biggest talent agents, Gersh – who have Kristen Stewert and Jamie Foxx on their books.

The 26-year-old says his love of the limelight comes from his not-so-camera-shy grandmother Elizabeth Ryan.

His confident gran once hosted an RTE show called For Better For Worse and Donal says she loved reliving her glory days when she appeared as a guest on Kitchen Hero.

"She loves being on set," Donal told the Herald.

"So being on my show gave her the chance to relive the TV career, I think she was absolutely delighted," he says.

But Donal added that his girlfriend Sofie Larsson won't be making a cameo on his show.

"Being in front of the lens isn't really her thing."

Donal has been dating Swedish-born Sofie for seven years and he credits Sofie for being the business brain behind Brand Skehan.

And the Howth man is in talks with several US networks about a Stateside cookery show.

"I have been working with a US production company for the past six months developing a show," he says. "I can't say too much about it but it's similar to the shows I have done before. We're pitching it to US Networks – it's extremely nerve wracking."

Donal was speaking at the launch of Innocent Drinks Sow and Grow scheme; a programme to encourage kids to grow their own vegetables.

"I think it's really important for kids to connect with what they are eating," he said.
