My tears at birth of twins -- chef Neven
NEVEN Maguire has revealed he couldn't stop crying when he saw his newborn twins enter the world.
The celebrity chef spoke of his delight at becoming a dad after his wife Amelda gave birth to their first children, twins Lucia and Connor on Wednesday.
The 38-year-old, a twin himself, explained Amelda was due to have a caesarean section next Tuesday, on Valentine's Day, but she was taken in early because of high blood pressure.
"They said, 'These babies are ready to come, they're ready to rock and roll'," he told RTE's Ryan Tubridy. "So she went in Tuesday and had them on Wednesday morning.
"It kind of happened very quickly, which was good because she hadn't much time to think.
"She went in at nine and within 20 minutes, half an hour, the babies were here. I was there with her, holding her hand. I could see a little bit but I won't go into the gory details."
Describing the two little babies, he said: "Two great heads of hair, all black. Absolutely brilliant, fantastic.
"My head was spinning all day," he added: "I couldn't settle down. It's one of the best feelings. I couldn't stop crying. I was so emotional and just so excited. I was ready to explode with excitement. It was a feeling like I've never had before."
Neven said that his father, who died in a car crash 13 years ago, must have been watching over the two little bundles of joy.
"I thank God and I thank my dad. He's not alive now but he's looking over us."
The couple, who own MacNean House, had hoped to expand their family for the past two years. Neven comes from a family of nine children while Amelda is an only child. Little Lucia was in special care yesterday but will soon be reunited with her brother.
