MICHAEL Douglas has made his first red carpet appearance in a sign that his cancer battle is finally behind him.
The superstar actor (66) and wife Catherine Zeta Jones (41) looked loved up as they attended last night's Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Last night's appearance is a far cry from the gaunt-looking figure photographed throughout the last number of months, having lost 32lb during his seven-week chemotherapy treatment.
But the Oscar-winning couple are now on the road to a new chapter in their lives, which they showcased last night for their first public appearance since he was officially deemed cancer free.
Brunette beauty Catherine was certainly sticking by her man, as she dutifully held his hand nearly the entire evening.
The pair were on hand for Michael to receive an Icon Award at the prestigious film festival last night.
Looking every inch the style queen, mum-of-two Catherine was sporting an elegant crimson gown and gold clutch.
Her equally dapper other half sported a classic grey suit and black shirt. Earlier this week the Wall Street and Fatal Attraction actor revealed his delight at the news that chemo-therapy and radiotherapy had eradicated the tumour in his throat.
And his father, acting legend Kirk Douglas (94) said he admired the way that his son and daughter-in-law handled the heartbreaking news of his cancer diagnosis.
"I admire the way Michael has handled this personal crisis," he said.
"He was open and honest with his family, the media and the public.
"He was gracious throughout, trying to live a normal life despite the constant press scrutiny and daily treatment."
The patriach of the Douglas dynasty praised his son's Welsh other half, saying she was "wonderful".
"I adore her and the beautiful life she has given my son. I believe they will have many more years together," he said.
