Mel C reveals Spice Girls' secret lives at the K Club
THEY travelled the world and performed in front of millions of people, but former Spice Girl Melanie C says some of her best memories with the band are from when they lived in Ireland.
The Herald can reveal that the biggest girl band in the world secretly lived in the K Club for three months before they became global stars.
Before the release of their ground-breaking single Wannabe, Victoria Beckham, Melanie C, Geri Halliwell, Melanie B and Emma Bunton spent three months in Kildare rehearsing and practising their routines.
The group had just been formed by boss Simon Fuller and were preparing to start a promotional tour when they were brought over to Ireland in 1994.
Speaking to the Herald, Melanie C, who is playing a solo gig at The Olympia on March 5, revealed it was one of the best times of her life.
"I can't wait to come back to Dublin. Some of my best memories with the girls took place here," she said.
"Most people don't know it but we actually lived here for three months before we went on our first ever tour. We were brought over to live here while we rehearsed for the tour. We actually lived in the K Club it was amazing.
"We used to go to Temple Bar all the time, I loved the atmosphere. We really got used to the Irish way of living for so long.
"I'll never forget the massive party we had when we were living here. Geri had rented a castle, it was bizarre, and we all had a huge party there for New Year," she told the Herald.
Meanwhile, the mother-of-one (38) denied rumours that the Spice Girls would be reuniting to perform at the London Olympics, saying they hadn't been approached.
