MAURA Derrane has posted pictures of her 'baby' – a cat she found wandering near her home.
MAURA came across the stray last week and issued an online appeal to help find its owner.
But nobody has come forward and Maura has decided to give the animal a home – her home, with Fine Gael TD husband John Deasy in Dungarvan, Co Waterford.
The delighted RTE star posted a picture of herself cuddling her new pet, tagging it "my baby".
Maura might have been poking fun at the reaction to her recent admission that she has no plans to have children with her husband of eight years.
Earlier this year, Maura (42) said having children was "not a priority" in her life.
"We're fine the way we are, we're happy the way we are.
"I've always been very busy career wise. I've never been very maternal."
TV presenter Maura has been busy dividing her time between her family home of Waterford and Cork city, where she has been co-presenting the Today show with Daithi O'Se.
They are due to finish their first successful run next month and she said she is cautiously optimistic about the magazine-style programme coming back.
Gaelgoir Maura, who hails from Inis Mor, said it's fortunate that herself and her co-presenter get on so well.
"Such camaraderie can't be faked as the audience will just see through it," she explained.
And Maura turns to her family and friends when she is looking for an honest opinion on her TV performance.
"I think the true barometer of any show is the public. I would even ask my mum about my own performance and she can be very critical. Like last week she said, 'do you think Daithi minded you saying that about him because he looked at you funny'."
