Mastermind? I couldn't even remember my date of birth, says Holly
IRELAND'S celebrities have been lining up to be grilled by Nora Owen on Ireland's first ever series of Mastermind.
Miss Ireland Holly Carpenter and Today FM personality Mairead Farrell are among the stars who will be tested in front of the nation.
Former Fine Gael politician Nora Owen has firmly left her political career behind her and officially taken on the role of host on the Irish version of the quiz show, but it will be Ireland's top celebrities who will really be in the hotseat when the new show airs.
Holly, who is the reigning Miss Ireland and girlfriend of Leinster rugby star Cian Healy, was one of the first stars to feel the pressure this week as she took part in the celebrity version of the game show for charity. The NCAD student chose Van Gogh paintings as her speciality.
Speaking to the Herald, Holly admitted she was extremely nervous before filming her episode yesterday.
"I really didn't think it would be that stressful. It's nerve wrecking because you're sitting there completely in the dark with a light shining on you and you can't see anything.
"But I really wanted to do well, I studied and everything, hopefully I came across well," she said.
"I was scared that I was going to draw a blank during my questions. I was so nervous to the point where I thought I was going to forget my own date of birth."
Also joining Holly in the list of celebrities in the hot seat are Today FM star Mairead Farrell, comedian Paddy Courtney, journalist Una Mullally, controversial writer Nell McCafferty and popular radio DJ Rick O'Shea.
Following in the footsteps of the original BBC show, TV3 are set air the Irish version of the top British game show next month, which will see people go head to head for cash to become the ultimate Mastermind.
