Madonna in NY neighbour row
MADONNA has lost a bid to get rid of a neighbour's lawsuit claiming the superstar made a racket by using her New York apartment as a rehearsal studio.
A judge turned down Madonna's request to dismiss the suit. Her publicist and lawyer didn't immediately respond to requests for comment yesterday.
Karen George says Madonna's dance and exercise routines subjected neighbours to "blaring music, stomping and shaking walls" for up to three hours a day. The judge says the dispute warrants a trial.
Law & Order stalker is fined
A MAN convicted of stalking Law & Order: Criminal Intent actress Kathryn Erbe has been sentenced in New York to five years' probation and ordered to pay $42,000 (¤29,000) in restitution.
Prosecutors say Charles Nagel (36) began stalking Erbe in 2008 by trying to hug her while she was filming. Once he was rebuffed, he began composing creepy missives about her on a social networking site.
The TV series featured Erbe as Detective Alexandra Eames for nine seasons.
Jihadist group in China attack
A JIHADIST group has released a video claiming responsibility for attacks in western China that killed at least three dozen people.
The Site Intelligence Group, a US-based organisation that monitors militant organisations, said the video was made by the Turkistan Islamic Party, which seeks independence for China's western Xinjiang region.
At least three dozen people, including the attackers, were killed in the attacks in the cities of Hotan and Kashgar.
Mexico fire ¤1m reward offered
MEXICAN authorities have identified another 18 suspects in a casino fire that killed 52 people last month, and are offering $1.3m (¤0.9m) for information leading to arrests.
Federal prosecutor Jose Salinas says the suspects are in the Zetas drug cartel.
Gunmen entered the Casino Royale in Monterrey on August 25, spread petrol around and set the building on fire, trapping and asphyxiating dozens of people in what is believed to be a case of extortion.
