Irish fashionistas a step ahead of Kate in the style stakes

SHE might be the princess of style but it appears Dublin fashionistas are way ahead of Kate Middleton.

Her Valentine's Day coat has been causing quite a stir in the UK -- however, it has been sold out in Ireland for over a month.

Within hours of the 30-year-old, who is a fan of high street shops Reiss and Topshop, showing off a new outfit, fans flock to get their hands on the pieces.

Kate hit high notes yet again with critics when she stepped out for her second solo public engagement on Tuesday, wrapped up against the cold in a chestnut brown Hobbs coat.

However, for once it seems our native shoppers were one step ahead of Prince William's wife in the style stakes. The Unlimited Celeste wool coat, which the brunette beauty wore to an outing in Liverpool, flew off shelves here over a month before the duchess sported the garment.

A fashion insider told the Herald that the item sold out in Ireland's only Hobbs store, in the Dundrum town centre, in January.

"It was an extremely popular coat with shoppers and was sold out completely after Christmas.

Shelves

"Even though Kate has been seen wearing it now, there are no plans for it to return to shelves in-store because it was last season's Autumn/Winter collection. The Spring/Summer stock has already started to come in."

The item, which was originally priced at €442, is now on sale in the Outlet department on Hobbs' website, for a more affordable €218.

While no doubt trend-conscious customers who missed out the first time around will now be hoping to get hold of this stylish item, there has been so much demand to copy Kate's ensemble this week that it has even sold out online.

Customers have been reassured though that the coveted article of clothing will be back in stock online later this week for purchase.

Described as a "double crepe wool coat that subtly flares from the hips", the Unlimited Celeste it is adorned with leather stud fastening cuff straps and a matching belt.

The royal kept her look chic and elegant, by teaming her coat with a simple, understated black polo neck dress from high-street store Oasis, matched with black tights and heels.

Kate is not the only Middleton to have a massive following when it comes to what she wears.

Younger sister Pippa (28) has also drawn huge interest in her sartorial choices, including a mini dress, designed by Alice Temperley, which she wore at London Fashion Week.
