Irish actress Alison lands role in Home And Away

A LITTLE-known Irish actress has landed a coveted role in the soap Home And Away.

Alison McGirr (29) from Carlow, is appearing as Molly Brenner in the hugely popular Australian soap.

Although Alison was born in Australia, her family moved back to Ireland to Carlow in 1996 and Alison attended Tullow Community School.

Her aunt Joan Carroll from Rathoe has said how her extended family are now big fans of the soap which is watched by up to 150,000 people on RTE everyday.

"Its great to see her on it," said Alison's cousin Linda Finn. "Her character is Molly and she's a case worker for the Docks on the programme. It's a guest role at the moment but hopefully it will lead to more."

Alison first appeared in the soap in August and started appearing in episodes being broadcast in Ireland in the past three weeks.

She graduated with a degree in fine arts and acting and has been busy with stage and television work since. Her upcoming projects include a role in the movie The Interview.

Alison is engaged to fellow actor and director Sam Atwell, who is best known for his role as Kane Philips in Home And Away.

The pair hope to live in the home of Alison's great-great-grandfather in Coolroe, Ardattin, Co Carlow.
