Ireland's page 3 girl Claire back to college to become ... Dr Tully

IRELAND's only topless model is throwing stereotypes out the window and moving to England to study for a PhD.

Although Claire Tully (26) has never been shy about her academic ambitions, enduring a lifetime of jibes at her 'PHDD' credentials, she is now preparing to become Dr Tully over the next four years.

The Herald can reveal that the blonde beauty has just been accepted into a prestigious PhD programme in England, but is keeping the name of the university under wraps for now.

"I've won a scholarship to go and do my PhD. It's great because the funding has been so poor here for the last while, and the competition to get places has gone through the roof," she said.

"I will be going over to England. I'm not saying which university yet, but I'm pretty delighted where I got in.

"I can't wait to get back into the lab, where I'll be really busy and focused on stuff that is actually concerning the real world."

The Trinity graduate, who specialises in biochemistry and immunology, admitted that many of her close pals are suffering from the financial crisis, and she is thrilled to have such security for the next four years.

"I feel so much for young people here like myself," she said.

"I'm just delighted that I have four years of guaranteed pay from this scholarship, doing research that I love."

The leggy blonde made her mark on Ireland's modelling industry by being the country's first topless model, but said she was thrilled to prove her critics wrong with her latest achievement.

"I'm not stupid, I'm far from it. I'm delighted now because I feel that I'm proving all of them wrong."
