Kathryn Thomas has no plans to put herself forward for Gerry Ryan's 2fm radio job.
Kathryn is one of the many stars to be linked to the slot following her stint on radio for the first time earlier this year when standing in for Ryan Tubridy .
The 30-year-old, whose long-running travel show No Frontiers has been axed by RTE, is adamant she won't be the one who steps into Gerry's shoes when Lucy Kennedy and Colm Hayes finish their temporary stint co-hosting the show in three weeks. Talented Kathryn says that after just one week filling in on The Tubridy Show, she doesn't have the experience to take over from Gerry.
"I mean those shoes have to be filled but I don't really want to be the one to fill them," Kathryn told the Herald.
"It's a tough one. I don't know who the right person would be. It has to be someone with a lot of experience.
"I actually hadn't even heard that my name had been mentioned for the gig, I haven't done that much radio.
"2fm will have to do a lot of re-jigging. I think it's a matter of completely changing the format and bringing the station into a new era."
Kathryn admits she would love to further her knowledge of the radio industry, however, and says it's an area she would like to try her hand at in the future. According to the Winning Streak Dream Ticket co-host: "I absolutely loved filling in for Ryan while he was on holidays.
"There's a great buzz from radio. It's a different medium, it's just so intimate and there's so much more interaction with the listeners.
"Ryan's audience are great. I got on really well doing the show and I wouldn't mind doing more in the future."
Kathryn has been mooted as one of the front runners to host a new afternoon slot with the national broadcaster next autumn and admits it's something she would certainly consider if it were offered to her.
According to Kathryn: "It is possibly something I would be interested in, but I'm looking at a couple of other options.
"At the moment it's all rumours, it's that time of year where there's lots of speculation flying around. The Afternoon Show is still on air at the moment and they've been put out for tender, but as soon as that comes off air then that's when they'll begin making their decisions.
"Honest to God I haven't heard a thing about it. I know everyone always says that, but I genuinely haven't. We won't hear anything about it until closer to the autumn."
Kathryn was speaking at the premiere of Robin Hood at Dundrum cinema theatre on Wednesday night, which she attended with her long-term boyfriend Enda Waters.email@example.com
