I won't be splashing the cash on my little Zach, insists Elton
Elton John has vowed he won't be spoiling his son with money or lavish gifts, despite his millions.
"I'm ready to have a child and lavish my love on our son and not spoil him," he said.
The singer and partner David Furnish have told OK! magazine of the moment they finally fulfilled their dreams of having a child when Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born via a surrogate on Christmas Day.
Elton was present for the delivery and said the tot had an easy birth and "shot out like a rocket". And he told of how impossible it was to express his joy at the arrival of the little boy.
"There just aren't proper words to describe that feeling," he said. "It's indescribable. It was just...We have a son."
Baby Zachary is Elton's first child with Furnish.
The couple's civil partnership was formalised in 2005. However, the star couple have promised to continue to provide emotional and financial support for two Ukrainian orphans, even though they now have their own child.
The rock legend said he would never give up on two-year-old Lev and his brother Artyom, four. The children stole the hearts of the couple when they visited an orphanage in 2009, but their plans to adopt were reportedly thwarted by Ukrainian laws. They then turned their attentions to having their own child through a surrogate. The pregnancy was kept a closely guarded secret, with the birth only being announced early in the new year.
Elton John is already godfather to several celebrity offspring, including Liz Hurley's son and one of David and Victoria Beckham's three sons.
