I told my little sister to marry an Irishman – Tess

STRICTLY Come Dancing host Tess Daly has revealed she is a big fan of Irish men.

The presenter, wife of Family Fortunes presenter Vernon Kay (39), once tried to set her sister up with an Irishman in the hope of keeping her on this side of the world.

The UK star's younger sister, Karen, has been living in New Zealand for ten years.

Tess (44), whose family connections trace back to Cavan, said: "She said, 'I want to marry an Irishman or a Kiwi', so I said, 'Okay I'm taking you to Ireland because I don't want you to emigrate'. Sadly, she didn't meet an Irishman and she's ended up living in New Zealand."

The mum-of-two, who visited Limerick yesterday to mark the Crescent Shopping Centre's 40th birthday, told how she loved telling her daughters, Phoebe (9) and Amber (4), that they have Irish heritage on her dad's side. "I've been telling them quite proudly they have Irish roots," she said.

But while Tess is delighted with the success of Strictly, she admitted that her and Vernon's hectic schedules meant they struggled to keep to a weekly date night.

"We have occasional date nights," she said. "It's supposed to be every week, but at the minute that's fallen by the wayside because he's busy with Family Fortunes."
